Recent Developments
Loretto has recently seen a great deal of activity in terms of improvements in facilities both in classrooms and in boarding and day provision. Over the course of 2005/6 eight science laboratories have been completely refurbished, along with four new maths classrooms.
The School has also created an additional art and ICT room and a state-of-the-art sound recording studio. All five senior school boarding houses are modernised and restructured to create two for the Sixth Form, two for Third, Fourth and Fifth Form, and one day house for boys and girls. In addition, there is one junior boarding house in the Junior School for boys and girls.
This modernisation programme supports a number of strategic changes at Loretto that came into effect in September 2006. These changes reflect parents' needs for more flexibility and, in particular, to cater for the increasing popularity of Loretto's 'long school day' with its extensive extra-curricular choices and the growing demand for flexi-boarding. Other main changes include:
- Introducing a range of flexi-boarding packages in both the Senior and Junior Schools and a weekly boarding option in the Junior School only.
- Reducing the entry age into the Senior School by one year to 12 years from September 2006 (the traditional 13 year-old entry from Prep Schools will not be affected by this).
- Expanding School transport services to and from the School; there are now three daily Loretto minibuses from North Berwick, Dunbar and Gifford.
Loretto prides itself on being known as a small, friendly school where staff and pupils know each other personally.
