Boarding

Loretto is a full-boarding, flexi-boarding and day school. Over 70% of the Senior School is boarding.

We provide a boarding school environment for both day pupils and boarders. This includes a range of academic and extra-curricular activities that few day schools can match. Children take part in a full, holistic curriculum which develops mind, body and spirit.

The Loretto curriculum includes a long, full day with busy evenings, and boarders have a full weekend programme . There is Saturday morning school for pupils in the Senior School followed by matches and activities during the afternoon. Junior School pupils can choose to participate in the very popular Saturday morning Activities Programme at the Junior School which finishes at lunch-time.

At Loretto the boarding standards of care and accommodation are very high, we continue to invest in new and upgrading boarding facilities.

There are two boys' houses (Hope and Seton), and two girls' houses (Balcarres and Holm). Each House is staffed by a resident Housemaster or Housemistress, a resident Assistant Housemaster or Housemistress, and a resident Matron. The Housemaster or Housemistress takes overall responsibility for the pastoral, academic, and physical welfare of the Houses' pupils.

Our sixth-form students often have single-study bedrooms in their own accommodation block and are allowed a greater degree of freedom to encourage a sense of responsibility and to prepare them for adult life.

Many younger pupils share well-decorated bedrooms in small groups (2 to 4 pupils)

Much of the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the House and its discipline is devolved to the Sixth Form, especially the Prefects, and the heads of dormitory rooms, under the supervision of and monitoring by the resident staff and tutors.
