Bursaries at Loretto

Loretto strives to have a diverse School roll by providing financial support towards the School's fees to as many children as possible from all sectors of the community. Currently about a quarter of all pupils receive some form of financial help from the School through a bursary or scholarship award.

Bursaries are available to support non-scholarship and scholarship children. These are means-tested to help families with limited financial means to be educated at Loretto.

Parents wanting to make initial enquiries about bursary support from the School should contact the Bursary as early as possible in the year before entry. Parents who progress to filling out a bursary support form must have their child registered (Senior School Registration Form) with the Admissions Department. Completed bursary forms should be sent to the Headmaster. The bursary form is approved by the Independent Schools' Bursars' Association; this is available from the Bursary.

What is the value of a means-tested bursary?

This depends on each individual case. Typically means-tested bursaries are up to 30% of the fees with the exception of the Almond Scholarships which are means-tested up to 100% of fees. Bursary funds are limited but are available to support pupils who pass Loretto's entrance criteria and who the School feels would benefit from a Loretto education.

Services Bursaries

Some Service Bursaries are available for families from the Armed Services.

University Awards: Lamert Bursaries (Sixth Form)

Sidney S Lamert, a distinguished former Governor and pupil of Loretto, generously endowed a trust to support Lorettonians at University and other further education establishments. The awards are in the range of £500 - £1,500 and are for three or four years. The application forms are available from the Headmaster's PA. The final date for the receipt of applications is the beginning of a pupil's final Summer Term.

GAP Year Awards: The Gordon Voluntary Award

The generosity of the Gordon family enables up to four Lorettonians to apply for grants for voluntary service in their GAP year. The typical payment is around £1,000. Further details are available from the Headmaster's Secretary.

Loretto will also help parents with applications for funding to external trust funds.
