For almost a decade Loretto has had a successful international pupil exchange programme. From 2010 this will expand to include more opportunities for a wider age range of Loretto pupils to travel the world and spend time studying, playing sport, enjoying activities and making friends in schools across the globe.

In addition to regular reciprocal travel and study programmes in Europe Loretto has a proud history of exchanges with pupils from excellent schools in South Africa, Australia, Canada and India. From next year the destination list will enlarge to include the United States of America.

Sporting links

Since 2004 Loretto pupils have been invited to play sport in foreign countries and in turn the school has invited young cricketers and rugby players to be guest members in Loretto teams. This has been on the understanding that visitors do not deny an existing pupil the opportunity to represent the school and there are no more than two exchange pupils as reserves or team members for any fixture.

Fixtures

Not all schools have exchange pupils and these schools may have concerns that such players offer an unfair advantage. Whilst results in past years would not bear out such a concern Loretto respects such sensitivities and will not field exchange pupils in any fixture if this is requested by opposing teams.

Becoming an exchange pupil at Loretto

Two staff have responsibility for coordinating the exchange programme which is open to boys and girls from the Fourth Form upwards. Pupils are selected upon making a formal written application and interview.

Schools wishing to join the programme

Staff from overseas schools interested in their pupils taking part in the exchange programme should, in the first instance, make contact with the Headmaster's PA for more information.
