Charitable Purpose
Loretto's objective is to provide a high quality education, tailored to individual pupils' needs, to boys and girls from 3 to 18 years. T he school's founder HH Almond believed such education should be characterised as in accord with the dictates of "right reason". The emphasis now is on caring for "mind, body, spirit", that is an attainment of high academic standards, and an enjoyment of games and sports, as well as a development of the full potential of each individual. It is a fairly small school of just over 530 pupils. Some pupils are day pupils, others are boarders and some are flexi boarders.
Children, at whatever age, are supported to develop a broad range of life skills, which include: a high standard of academic success, a secure level of confidence; community spirit; independence; cultural awareness; respect for others; self motivation; a wide variety of interests; sporting skills; social skills and a diverse social life; close relationships with friends; a good working relationship with teachers; effective team-working and leadership.
A Curriculum for Excellence
The curriculum and the extra-curriculum provide a central part of Loretto's education.
All contribute "in the development of the four capacities", making pupils
- Successful learners
- Confident individuals
- Responsible citizens
- Effective contributors,
with the relevant battery of skills that characterize these.
Each of these outcomes is achieved by a combination of several strands that go to make the complete educational experience at Loretto. The curriculum, and extra-curriculum are planned to ensure that the potential of each student is maximized.
