How to give

Gift Aid

Under the Gift Aid scheme, The Loretto Foundation can recover the basic-rate tax paid on any size of donation. So if you donate £1000 to Loretto, we actually receive £1,282. Furthermore, if you are a higher rate tax payer, you can reclaim the difference (18 %) between basic rate tax (22%) and higher rate tax (40%) on the gift. This means you get a refund on £230 on the £1000 gift.

Share Transfer

Giving shares rather than cash donations could be more than an act of generosity- it could be a wise investment decision because of the tax relief which can be claimed on the value of donated shares.

You as the donor can claim tax relief equal to the market value of the shares on the day you make the transfer, together with any associated costs such as broker’s fees. The relief is against your income tax for the year. For example, if you donate £1000 worth of shares and you are a higher rate taxpayer, you will pay £400 less in income tax that year.

Additionally, you will not have to pay any capital gains tax (CGT) on any increase in the value of the shares since you bought them

Cheques can be made payable to “The Loretto Foundation” and posted to the address below; alternatively, you can create a direct debit or standing order through your bank or building society.
