Munsey Wins Highland Junior Golf Open
20 June 2008
Highland Junior Open Pitlochery Golf Club 15th June 2008
After receiving information about the Junior Highland Open I put it to the members of the Golf Academy as an extra tournament they could enter. The date suited well coming at the end of a busy exam week so we had a good response with 10 eventually traveling to the event.

We were lucky with the weather avoiding the heavy rain that was scheduled so that we could enjoy the beautiful views from the course. The course was in excellent condition but its tricky layout caught out a few of our players, none of which had played the course before.
George Munsey played some excellent golf driving the ball exceptionally well to put him in position to attack the flags. Unfortunately a miss judgment on the short par four seventh cost him a triple bogey moving him to four over. However he maintained his composure and made a string of pars before driving the short par four 14th. After a great long putt that just clipped the edge of the hole he tapped in for a birdie moving back to three over. George gave himself excellent birdie opportunities over the next three holes unfortunately they all slid by. The 18th a short par 4 down the hill with water in front George made a sensible play by hitting a six iron off the tee to leave him a full wedge into the green, which unfortunately bounced just off the green. However a good chip and a solid three foot putt secured his 72 and the club house lead.

After a long wait for the prize giving it was eventually confirmed that George had won the scratch event by one shot and Fernando Alzaga had come third in the handicap event.
