U12 Cricket v Fettes L-70 for 4 F-110 for 9 (lost by 40 runs)
Fettes had two big boys who hit the ball hard and we fed them rather too many short balls. After these two were dismissed their side folded dramatically, our fielding picked up but the damage had been done. We started well in reply and were 38 for 0 off 7 overs but after the run out of Cameron Good (25) the innings slowed and we found it harder going. Simon Whait carried his bat for a sound 23 not out but the target remained out of sight. This was a slightly disappointing end to the season but the U12s have done quite well to win half of their matches and they have been a keen and enjoyable group to work with. Friday 13 June
U10/U11 Athletics v Compass L-156 C-129 (win)
On a fine sunny day Loretto came out winners of a tightly fought contest. Every individual gave their all. A special mention goes to Finlay Paterson who had a fantastic run against the Compass number one runner and came out victorious with a last minute energy burst and a sprint finish. The relay teams were also very strong and overall Loretto deserved a hard fought victory. Well done athletes.
U11 Cricket v Fettes F-50 for 9 L-52 for 1 (win by 9 wickets)
A direct throw run out by Theo Koulis was the highlight of a pretty good fielding performance as we limited Fettes to just 50 off the allotted 20 overs. There was some tight bowling from Jamie Bouwer and Ross Paterson but the star performer this week was Joe Waterston with 3 for 2. Good to see Toby Gobourn get a wicket and some good bowling too from Murray Brechin and Forbes Wigmore. In reply our openers Simon Whait and Finlay Paterson put on 35 for the first wicket before Toby came to the crease to play the shot of the season, an exquisite cover drive straight out of the MCC coaching manual! Simon finished on a superb 36 not out and he and Toby saw us home with 12 overs to spare: a big win.
U9 v Ardvreck A-97 runs L-178 runs (win)
After a few hiccups and 'throw ups' to our journey Loretto arrived in a rather bothered manner. Would this be the thorn in our side which would upset what could be a perfect season for the boys? Not in the least. Loretto batted with confidence and ease from the most consistent bowlers of the school circuit. They racked up a decent 78 runs and knew that this may not have been enough for a victory. Loretto not wanting defeat responded by taking the rabbit out of the 'bowler' hat. Never before have this team been so consistent with their bowling, fielding catching and awareness of the game. The boys didn't come all this way to lose and were in destructive mode as they pummelled Ardvreck wicket after wicket, catch after catch. James Dickinson played incredibly well and deserved joint man of the match with Cameron Middlemass. This is an excellent team of talented cricketers who have come on leaps and bounds since their first cricket session and will continue to improve throughout the coming years. Well Done boys!

U11/U10 Rounders v Belhaven B-6½ L-6 (lost)
This was a very close match this afternoon, Loretto seemed to lack confidence in the first innings and lacked communication as a team. The Belhaven team were quick and confident in fielding, catching a number of the Loretto girls out at first post. However, in the second innings the Loretto team regained their focus and determination and made up rounders lost. A particularly good performance from Johanna Dieffenbacher who scored 2 of Loretto's rounders. We now need to work on our fielding skills and tactics. We also need to make sure we don't take too many risks in getting to second post.
