Sport
The Games and Physical Education department at the Nippers is both busy and flourishing. It is the aim of the department to achieve the highest standards with both individuals and teams, whilst providing as many opportunities for as many children as possible.
Sports are played on three afternoons each week for 1.5 hours and as part of the daily Activities Programme (up to an hour a day and 2.5 hours on Saturday).
Competitive matches against other schools usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon or Saturday morning. In addition, there are sports tours for older pupils.
Due to the range of sporting opportunities available and the small size of the Nippers, boys and girls have numerous opportunities to represent the School, both as individuals and as members of teams. The Nippers runs both junior and senior teams for rugby, netball, rounders, hockey and cricket.
The overall standard of sport at Loretto is high and boys and girls often represent the Scottish regional Prep School teams such as the Dandylions. Boys and girls have recently represented the East of Scotland and Scotland junior cricket, rugby and netball teams.
As well as sporting facilities on the Junior School campus, we make extensive use of Senior School sports facilities. There are acres of playing fields, adjacent to the Junior School and near Pinkie in the Senior School, both with cricket pavilions. We also use the Nippers Hall, Nippers all-weather ash court, the Loretto Golf Academy practice area with putting green and driving bays, as well as excellent Senior School facilities
