Loretto is a small, friendly school and we see ourselves as a large extended family. Ther School currently has just over 200 boys and girls aged 3 to 12 years. It is made up of two parts, the Nursery (3 - 5 years) and Early Years (5 - 7 years) based at Eskbank, and the Nippers (8 - 12 years) at North Esk Lodge.

Junior School pupils

The School prides itself on high levels of pastoral care for both day and boarding pupils. The environment helps children to develop a broad range of life skills: high aspirations; confidence; independence; self-motivation; cultural awareness; respect for others; a wide variety of interests; sporting skills; social skills; common courtesies; community spirit; teamworking and leadership skills. These are all integral parts of educating the whole person and fundamental to Loretto's ethos.

Loretto's small class sizes, with an average size of 13 in the Junior School (and no more than 19), allows a high level of teacher contact timefor each pupil, this ensures both able and less able children can learn at their own pace.

We provide a full, long day for both day pupils and boarders. This includes an excellent range of academic and extra-curricular activities that few day schools can match.

At Loretto we aim to be as flexible as possible with the School day to fit in with parents' busy work and social schedules. The flexibility in our drop-off and pick up-times (8.15 am to 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 6.30 pm or later), and in our boarding options (flexi, weekly and full boarding) appeals to a wide range of families, particularly where both parents work.We also run School minibuses both to and from School within the Lothians from Dunbar, North Berwick and Gifford. We are also planning a route from Edinburgh.

Pupils benefit from our beautiful, historic campus and its location on the edge of Edinburgh close to East Lothian countryside, providing a secure working environment and the best of city and country opportunities. Our location ensures that we can easily lay on a rich extra-curricular programme.
