Latin and Classical Studies

Latin at Loretto is both exciting and fun. Latin is taught from Year Seven, and covers the Latin language as well as the civilisation, legacy and myths of both the Romans and Greeks. We use modern technology to teach about the ancient world.

Latin at Loretto is alive!

Latin reinforces and extends understanding and knowledge of English Grammar, whilst increasing our spoken vocabulary.

Latin provides a base for learning Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese.

Learning about Classical Civilisations helps us to have a greater understanding of history and our own culture.

Pupils can enjoy the poetry, myths and legends of the Greeks and Romans – some of the best literature ever written!

Surrounded by the Legacy

We are surrounded by the legacy of the Greeks and Romans in our lives – our architecture, art, roads, music, drama, sport, philosophy, army and warfare, literature, grammar and language, and leisure activities, are all passed down to us from these great civilisations.
