Loretto participating in Edinburgh Marathon

25 May 2008

25 May 2008, 9.00am, finishing at Musselburgh Race Course

On May 25 many thousands of runners will take to the start line of the Edinburgh Marathon and Relay, which once again this year finishes at Musselburgh Racecourse. Amongst the runners will be six Loretto staff relay teams, and at least one pupil relay team. This is a significant improvement on last year, where only three teams were entered, and is reflective of the success of last year's venture. Staff/spouses/friends of Loretto have been training hard over the past weeks, and if not raring to go, at least are resigned to the fact that they have to do it!

Two Loretto members of staff will be competing in the full marathon. Rick Valentine (whose training has been somewhat curtailed by the small matter of the arrival of his first baby, Ashleigh) ran his first Edinburgh marathon last year, and his willingness to tackle the challenge again is testiment to the addictive nature of distance running. He aims to beat his PB from last year, a very respectable 3.49. Peter Middleton, who was injured last year, will also compete in the marathon, hanging up his City of Edinburgh vest for the day to don the Loretto running gear. This will be his eighth marathon, and his first race since competing in March's 'Two Oceans' 56km race in South Africa.

With Loretto having such an active role on the day, it would be great to have some support on the route, so if you are twiddling your thumbs on the first Sunday of the May half term, wondering what to do, come along and give the Loretto runners a big cheer!
