Loretto pupils double win at U15 Inter-District Hockey
04 June 2009
Both the boys and the girls under 15 East District teams won their respective Inter-District competitions on Sunday 7th.
The girls, Tabby and Holly , won all of their games during the tournament finishing with a 2v0 victory over Midlands to lift the trophy and take the gold medal. Both the girls played an important role in the team throughout the day which saw them play 6 matches. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls, and good to see all of their hard work has paid off.
The boys, Robert Van Doornewaard, Angus Robb, Colin Manders and Struan White, won the under 15 Inter-District cup when they beat Midlands in a penalty shoot-out after a 0v0 draw in the final. In order to get to the final the team had finished second in the group beating West and North district along the way. The boys played exceptionally well all day and indeed it was left to a Colin Manders to seal the victory in the penalty shoot-out. Again, this is a fantastic achievement and both of these victories, boys and girls, has certainly raised the profile and reputation of the School.
Stephen Dick, GB and Olympic player, who is now a full time sports teacher at Loretto coaching hockey and PE says about this achievement:
"We have a good number of talented young hockey players at Loretto and it's very exciting to have a large representative from Loretto selected to play for the Scottish East District. This is the first stepping stone for Scottish National selection and gives the boys and girls new opportunities to advance their game."
