Loretto was the host school for the annual Beating Retreat by the massed Pipes and Drums of the Scottish CCFs which took place at Edinburgh Castle on Thursday 21st of May 2009. This major event in the Cadet calendar involves around 200 pupils from all over Scotland.
The salute was taken by Brigadier Patrick Marriot CBE who has just been appointed as the next Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The Brigadier was able to see his two sons George and Harry on parade with the Loretto Pipes and Drums. In addition four Loretto girls were involved in the Display of Highland Dancing which was part of the military pageant.
Loretto was also indebted to the Governor of the Castle Major-General David McDowall MBE who hosted a Reception in the Great Hall afterwards. It was a very great pleasure to be able to welcome so many Parents, Governors and friends of Loretto at this event.
