Loretto Highland Dancers and Pipes & Drums feature in major events at home and abroad

A busy few days last week for the pipers, drummers and Highland dancers of Loretto School, Musselburgh.

On Thursday 21st May they Beat Retreat at Edinburgh Castle with the Combined Scottish Schools Cadet Force bands.

Early the following morning, four Highland dancers and Loretto Pipe Major Colin Pryde departed for Pardubice in the Czech Republic at the invitation of East Lothian County Council Deputy Provost, Roger Knox, who is promoting links between the two horse-racing towns. They made several appearances during the three day visit, culminating in a performance in front of large crowds on British Race Day at Pardubice racecourse in the presence of the British Ambassador to Prague and the Mayor of Pardubice.

On the day of their return to Scotland the Loretto dancers, Juliet Cameron, Harriet Wood, Charlotte Oatts and Alexandra Whait, accompanied by piper Colin Pryde, repeated their performance for the opening ceremony of the US Kids Golf European Championship in the Concorde hangar at the Museum of Flight, where their dancing and the singing of Harriet Wood were warmly applauded by young golfers and their families representing 40 nations.

The Highland Dancers and Pipes & Drums of Loretto School have appeared at many events both within the UK and internationally. In the UK they have performed regularly at Lords Cricket Ground in London during the intervals of test matches, at Edinburgh and Holyrood Castles and at other major public events and festivals.

In Europe they have appeared at the Laas Festival of Celtic Music in France and toured Tuscany.
