CCF and DofE Weekly Update

2 February 2012

Loretto CCF Training

Navy trg – Drill, leading the Squad and leadership tasks – all participated well with some fun on the Parade Square with a myriad of orders – its giving the cadets a taste of leading from the front which is challenging at the moment.

Army A Company – they undertook a round robin of tasks; leadership tasks outdoors, air rifle shooting which is gathering momentum and enjoyment amongst the cadets; first aid and navigation training – despite the cold all participated well.

Army B Company – half practiced building shelters in the woods at Pinkie Site under the direction of their Sect Cdrs – the shelters I must say looked good enough to sleep under, wait until we sleep under them for the night exercise! Weapon training was delivered by the 6F Sect Cdrs and they taught the subject well all gaining in confidence each week.

Well done to all cadets for a good training session.

DofE Training

6th F gathered in the Maths ITC and worked on their route planning for their expedition.  This included the hill walkers and canoeists.  The riders were given a presentation by last years’ Riding group and there were many lessons and stories of their exploits that will be useful for the next team of riders later this year.

After double this morning, the Gold expedition groups were finally decided.  Now it will be expedition planning, looking at maps and determining the expedition route and what the aim of each expedition group will be.  Good luck.
