Nipper Tennis Season

28 June 2012

Dodging the rain, the Nippers have had a busy summer on the tennis courts.  The girls have enjoyed at least one session of tennis a week using the astro courts at the Senior School.  The U12 and U11 teams played a number of fixtures culminating in a good win against Edinburgh Academy at the end of May.

Year 4 – 7 girls and boys have played in the Nippers Tennis Tournament.  This was run throughout the term by Tennis Captain, Isabella Williams and assisted by Head Nipper, Mairi Conway. The tournament culminated in a finals afternoon held during Olympic week coinciding with the start of Wimbledon.  All the children enjoyed some entertaining tennis and a customary bowl of strawberries and cream.

The 2012 Nippers Tennis Champions are:

Junior girls doubles:  Izzy Lamotte and Sophie Hughson

Junior boys doubles:  Patrick Burnet and Ally Brown

Senior girls doubles:  Catherine Milne and Katie Stuart

Senior boys doubles:  Xander Brook and Kyle McGhie

Senior girls singles:  Catherine Milne

Senior boys singles:  David Dunn-Butler

"As a Lorettonian, you strive to become the best you can be, whatever your chosen profession or plan for the future; in School and out. You are not disheartened by failure; you adapt and succeed; working on your own or as a team. You listen to others, get on with new people and always take advice. You make the most of the wide range of opportunities that you have been given. You are confident and hard working, neither arrogant nor dishonest. You work to gain strength equal to your tasks; never content with the false sense of satisfaction gained from achieving less than your potential. Adapting, achieving; showing courage, honesty and strength. Performing in a team and as an individual. Working the try before giving the vital off-load. That's what I feel it means to be a Lorettonian".
