On Thursday 2nd February, Loretto’s 6th Form lecture society welcomed guest speaker Mr Stuart Boreham. Stuart holds a world record for rowing solo across the Atlantic, made all the more impressive by the way that he met the challenges posed by his muscular dystrophy and the sheer amount of sponsorship that he raised for charity.
Stuart’s talk was encapsulating and hit a real chord with the audience. He sent a clear message about setting targets, grasping opportunities, testing your limits, overcoming negativity and facing up to adversity. Rarely has a speaker been asked so many questions by the audience after a talk and rarely has a speaker been received so warmly. Stuart spent time talking with pupils individually after the event. It proved difficult to drag him away to meet the last sleeper train home!
