Piping and Drumming
The Loretto Pipe Band has been part of life at Loretto for over a hundred years. The earliest remaining photograph of the Scottish School's Pipe Band dates back to 1910 and shows six pipers and five drummers. Today the Loretto Pipe Band is often accompanied by the School's troupe of highland dancers. Children interested in the pipe band start to learn the chanter or drums in the Junior School, and have an opportunity to join the pipe band when they graduate to the Senior School aged twelve.
Loretto's Combined Cadet Force (CCF)
The band, which is part of Loretto's Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is increasingly popular with girls as well as boys. A number of girls play the drums and dance, and more girl pipers are expected to join the band in the near future.
