Religious Studies

In Form 2 pupils study a bespoke course called 'secular sacraments'. The aim is to give pupils ownership of the chapel life of Loretto through an understanding of the awe and wonder of worship in a classroom setting.

In Form 3 Religious perspectives on world issues is studied by exploring all the major world religions. Topics covered include early life, animal welfare, a just war and care of the planet. Once the facts have been taught and examined the pupils further engage in discussion through formal debating. The skills of public speaking and presentation of an argument are developed at this stage.

Pupils who elect to study Religious Studies beyond the 3rd Form enrol in a full GCSE which is taught over two years. As well as studying religious perspectives in more depth and detail a course in the history, practices and procedures of Christianity is undertaken.
