Activities and preps take place after the normal school day finishes at 3.40pm. The majority of SH pupils take full advantage of this area of school life and find it both rewarding and fun. The selection of activities and preps take place at an Activity Fair at the beginning of each term. Before this event pupils and parents will have been sent a document showing what is on offer and pupils will have been seen by their tutors, who will offer guidance.

Once activities and preps have been selected, pupils are expected to attend and roll calls are taken. If a pupil is unable to attend a particular activity/prep on a given day, they should let the SH office know as soon as possible.

Activities/preps normally take place:

  • 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • 5.00pm to 6.00pm
  • 6.15pm - 7.15pm - these are usually for senior pupils

The school has an expectation of participation which is detailled below:

Minimum expectations for activities are;

  • U6 do not have to do activities but it is encouraged that they do so especially with UCAS in mind - however their academic priorities must take precedence.
  • L6 must do 2 of which 1 is a Service Activity - choosing between CCF, DofE (they can do DofE in the CCF or not in the CCF), Community Service and Conservation and Recycling;
  • 2nd Form must do 3 (they do not do Service Activities).
  • 3F/4F/5F must do 3 activities of which 1 is a Service Activity (3F do Life Skills and 5F do CCF - with a choice to major in DofE in the CCF

LORETTO ACTIVITY WEEKENDS (LAW)

Every other weekend (as published in the School Diary) there is a LAW weekend. This is when the school lays on an enhanced activity programme. A variety of events are normally available and day pupils are welcome to come along and take part and join the boarding community. LAW details are emailled to parents, and pupils should inform their tutors or the SH office, should they wish to take part in any particular event.

Recent LAW activities that have proved popular with SH pupils have included:

  • Junior Socials
  • Drama workshops
  • Art activities
  • Hip hop rehearsals
  • 6 Nations Rugby Internationals
